the magic of hope {hope’s haven children’s charity gala 2013}

Last year my husband and I joined the board of an organization called Hope’s Haven that very quickly became a special part of our lives.  I was honored to co-chair our first annual gala this past fall, and believe it or not we are starting planning for year two already! So before moving on to this year’s gala it only seems fitting to reflect back on an event that will forever hold a special place in my heart.HHGala-c92

I hope I will look back on it as the first of many successful Hope’s Haven galas to come.  Even going through the photos again reminds me how truly magical the night was in so many ways.  I have never walked away from a night being so incredibly proud to be a part of a group of people.  Not only did we have fun, but had the pleasure of being surrounded by amazing generosity and kind hearts all night.hhgalatables

Guests enjoyed the magic of Johnny Ace Palmer with closeup amazement during cocktail hour, and a stage show that left guests in shock and awe!

Our fellow board member told the inspirational story of his own son who battled leukemia, and an experience that ultimately led to the formation of what we call the iPad project.   During their son Mikey’s journey, his iPad was instrumental in keeping smiles present during his treatments and hospital stays.  Those smiles gave their family strength and hope during his road to recovery.

At Hope’s Haven, we believe that smiles truly can be amazing medicine, and every child going through a serious illness deserves to keep a smile on their face. Mikey’s story sparked generosity from gala attendees, and Hope’s Haven is on the road to filling Ventura County pediatric hospital beds with iPads this year.  These kids enduring long hospital stays will be able to communicate with their friends and families, continue schoolwork, and what every little kid should be able to do – play games and stay entertained! The first iPad deliveries of the year have been made and the heartfelt appreciation reminded me why events like this are so very important.

The fundraising the evening achieved is going to allow us to help children battling illnesses, and also support their families who undergo the struggle right alongside them.  We hope to make the tough time a little easier and the burden a little lighter.

Hope’s Haven holds special events and provides financial support to families year round, striving every single day to offer relief when it is needed most.  We believe there really is a certain kind of magic that happens when you are able to give a child the gift of a smile.

If you are interested in ways to get involved please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at  It is a cause that has warmed my heart and I have no doubt it would do the same for you.

Thank you to all of the donors, volunteers, attendees and supporters of our first annual gala.  You are all the heart of the organization and we could not do what we do without you.  We hope to see you again this year!

One last thank you to Sugar Plum Studios for capturing the night’s memories.
