As I sat pondering what to write about for the first franny bee blog post I found myself asking the same question most clients ask me first… “where do I begin?!” So I thought it would be fitting to tell you how I started designing my own wedding invitations a few years ago when my husband and I tied the knot.
I absolutely LOVE brainstorming with couples to discover what their big day will become. I have to admit when I started planning my own wedding my brain was going in a million directions. I had been inspired by endless blogs and magazines for years… that were of course all discreetly hidden before my husband popped the question under the InStyle and UsWeekly issues on my nightstand.
There are so many styles and colors and fun things to choose from, an endless array beautiful choices! So I decided to narrow down the endless possibilities and keep it true to my favorite style – classic and elegant.
Once I picked my colors (which is going to have to be an entirely separate post) I got going on our save the dates. I found the letterpress “save the date” stamp that I wanted to incorporate, decided to illustrate the date with the calendar concept, and lastly decided I wanted to do wrap around labels as a unique touch.
For the label design, I was inspired by the ornate details throughout our venue – the Casa Del Mar hotel in Santa Monica, CA. More specifically the beautiful wrought iron staircases throughout the hotel.
Along with the colors and fonts I decided to take that little detail on the label and carry it through to our invitations.
… and to the day of details including programs, seating chart and menus.
I have to stop and say the photos after this point are the beautiful work by the talent of JennaBeth Photography. The invite photos in the beginning of the post… well let’s just say photography isn’t my claimed talent!
I also loved working with the cake decorator at Vanilla Bake Shop to incorporate the design that originated from the beginning on the save the dates into our tasty cake for the actual date!
My best advice for where to start is to pick a few things you love… they will be your best inspiration for the look and feel of your big day!
